Speed Limits
ORDINANCE NO. 96-3 AS AMENDED TO JUNE 4, 2007
ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SPEED ZONES
WHEREAS, the Hughes County Board of Commissioners have the authority to establish speed zones within their jurisdiction,
BE IT ORDAINED, by the Board of Commissioners of Hughes County, that the following speed zones are established and that those speed zones shall supersede and replace all previously established speed zones:
1. Beginning at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 34 and Hughes County Dry Run Road, in the SE 1/4 of Section 7, T110N, R78W, thence northerly 1/2 mile, the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour, from 1/2 mile northerly of the junction of SD34 and Dry Run Road northerly 1/2 mile, the speed limit shall be 40 miles per hour.
2. Beginning at the SW corner of Section 15, T112N, R76W at the intersection of 199th Street and 310th Avenue, thence northerly 1/2 mile on 310th Avenue the speed limit shall be 25 miles per hour for trucks only.
3. Beginning at the northeast corner of Section 2, T109N, R74W, at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 34 and 324th Avenue, thence southerly 4.5 miles on 324th Avenue and Chaney Rush Road to the end of the Chaney Rush Road in the SE 1/4 Section 23, T109N, R74W, the speed limit shall be 40 miles per hour.
4. Beginning at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 34 and Medicine Creek Road in the SE 1/4 Section 22, T110N, R77W, thence northerly on Medicine Creek Road to a point near the SE corner of Section 11, T110N, R77W, the speed limit shall be 45 miles per hour.
5. Beginning at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 34 and UPS Road near the NW corner of Section 12, T110N, R79W, thence north one mile to a point near the NE corner of Section 1, T110N, R79W, the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.
6. Beginning at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 34 and UPS Road near the NW corner of Section 12, T110N, R79W, thence south 0.7 miles to a point near the west of 1/2 corner of Section 12, T110N, R79W, the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.
7. Beginning at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 1804 and 205th Street at the southeast corner of Section 17, T111N, R79W, west one mile on 205th Street, to the southeast corner of Section 17, T111N, R79W, the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.
8. Beginning 0.3 miles west of the intersection of Holly Road and Grey Goose Road near the south 1/4 corner of Section 32, T112N, R79W, thence easterly 1.6 miles on Holly Road to a point near the south 1/4 corner of Section 34, T112N, R79W, the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.
9. The speed limit for all streets and roads within the following subdivisions, shall be 30 miles per hour.
A. Camelot located in Section 23, T111N, R79W.
B. Hyde Subdivision in Section 4, T111N, R79W.
C. Oahe Acres in Section 32, T112N, R79W.
D. Stewart, Mentor and North 40 Addition in Section 33, T112N, R79W.
E. Dell Acres in Section 18, T111N, R78W.[1]
F. Lakeview Acres in Section 9, T110N, R78W.
10. The speed limit for all streets and roads within the following subdivisions, shall be 25 miles per hour.
A. Nystroms in Sections 4 & 5, T112N, R80W.
10A. The speed limit for all streets and roads within the following subdivisions, shall be 20 miles per hour.
A. Dell Acres in Section 18, T111N, R78W.[2]
B. H&C Subdivision (Flyway Acres) in Section 33-T112N-R79W.[3]
11. The speed limit on all Hughes County primary and county secondary roads, other than those listed above, shall be 55 miles per hour.
12. The speed limit on township roads under the jurisdiction of the organized townships of Raber, Valley, Logan, and Snake Butte shall be 55 miles per hour as requested by the respective boards of those townships.
13. Beginning at the junction of South Dakota Highway 14 and 205th Street near the northwest corner of Section 19, T111N, R78W thence east 1.2 miles to the junction of 205th Street and 295th Avenue, the speed limit shall be 45 30[4] 40[5] miles per hour.
14. Beginning at the northeast corner of Section 4-T112N-R80W at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 1804 and Hughes County Spring Creek Road thence westerly 1.2 miles on Spring Creek Road to a point near the NW corner of Section 2-T112N-R80W intersection with Landing Avenue[6], the speed limit shall be 45 miles per hour.[7]
14A. Beginning ½ mile west of the northeast corner of Section 4-T112N-R80W (the intersection of SD Hwy 1804 and Hughes County Spring Creek Road) at a point near the intersection of Spring Creek Road and Landing Avenue, thence westerly 0.7 miles on Spring Creek Road to a point near the northwest corner of Section 2-T112N-R80W, the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.[8]
15. Beginning at the intersection of Chesley Road and 206th Street thence northerly on Chesley Road four tenths of a mile to a point near the NW corner of the SE¼ in Section 24-T111N-R77W thence westerly on 206th Street three tenths of a mile to a point near the SW corner of the SE¼ in Section 24-T111N-R77W thence easterly on 206th Street three tenths of a mile to a point near the SE corner of the SE¼ in Section 24-T111N-R77W the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.[9]
16. Beginning at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 1804 and 205th Street, also known as Range Road, of the Southwest corner of Section 16-T111N-R79W east two miles on 205th Street (Range Road) to the Southeast corner of Section 15-T111N-R79W the speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour.[10]
17. Beginning at the intersection of US Highway 14 and 293rd Avenue near the northwest corner of the SW1/4 of Section 24-T111N-R74W thence northerly ½ mile to the junction of
