The Mission
The mission of the Veterans Service Office is to educate the citizens of Hughes, Stanley, and Sully Counties about state and federal benefits for veterans, their dependents and survivors, and to assist in application for these benefits. The Veterans Service Officer has forms, information and referrals available for:
Department of Veterans Affairs:
- Service connected compensation
- Non Service connected pension
- Hospital and out-patient medical care
- Education benefits
- Burial benefits
- Home loan guarantee
State of South Dakota:
The Veterans Service Office will help you in identifying the necessary documents and paperwork you need as a veteran. Veterans are encouraged to register their discharge information (DD Form 214, Report of Separation) with their respective County Registrar of Deeds.
For veterans unable to come into the office because of a disability or health, the Veterans Service Officer will arrange a visit to the nursing home, hospital, etc. The Veterans Service Officer is available for presentations to build awareness of veteran benefits.
Launched in 2011, www.maketheconnection.net connects Veterans, their family members and friends, and other advocates with mental health information, local resources, and Veterans' own inspiring stories of recovery.
